The Power of Present Moment Awareness by Shannon Duncan

One of the most difficult challenges for humans is the concept of living in the present moment. People are not taught to value the present moment because we are usually taught to live in the other two realms of consciousness: the past and the future. If a person thought about it, since we are children, we are taught to think about our future. We go to school, they teach us to get good grades and stay out of trouble, so we can go to college and get a good job in the future. Girls are taught to pine for their husbands and spend their entire childhood planning their future weddings. People will ask kids all the time, “What do you want to be when you grow up?” All of these scenarios and more implant the hopes and fears that adults have for the lives of children about their future.

As the child matures into an adult, he lives life in different ways. No matter how well a child has been prepared for the future, many unexpected things happen in life. Our lives will certainly have many twists and turns, and we might even get lost along the way. We will make a variety of mistakes, big and small, that will affect our careers, our relationships, and our views on life and ourselves. It is at times like this that we look back. We could remember the good advice they gave us. We might listen to a song that was popular during a long lost era of our lives, and the song will bring back those memories of the past. As we get older, we will surely have years of memories on our minds that we will desperately try to hold on to, and that we will pass on to our grandchildren and other relatives.

Based on the fact that we are trained to live in the future or in the past, it is not surprising that most people have no idea how to live in the present moment. Because we don’t know how to live in the present moment, we suffer from negative and downright toxic emotions such as stress, anxiety, regret, depression, anger, and bitterness. This is why Shannon Duncan has created a wonderful series of CDs. Shannon Duncan seeks to help listeners of The Power of Present Moment Awareness understand how to train their minds to stay in the present and live in the present. She does this by teaching that teaching that everyday life has lessons to teach us, and that if we can focus on the present moment, we can learn and grow in the ways we need to…now and in the present moment.

Listeners will learn how to create healthier relationships with others as they learn to let go of old hurts and bitterness. Listeners will learn how to reframe their perspectives based on their present-moment realities. This takes a great burden off of them and others. Many people relate to others and see themselves based on points of view that might have existed in the past, but now don’t work. Listeners will learn how to take away from others the burden of being a person they are not capable of being. In this way, the listener can relate to others in an appropriate way in the present moment.

There are so many other life-changing lessons that are waiting for listeners. This one is a must for those who want to stop living in the past and who want to stop worrying about the future. They can learn how to make the present moment work for them and thus create a future legacy that they will feel great about.
