Nestled among towering pines and rolling hills, Tahitian Village sits approximately 25 miles east of Austin and on the eastern side of Bastrop. Tahitian Drive is the main entrance and begins at the second traffic light east of the Colorado River Bridge, officially at the intersection of Loop 150 and Hwy 71 East.

Hwy 71 is actually the northern border of Tahitian Village. The beautiful Colorado River borders the south side, with a few homes located on the other side of the meandering river. Known as Lost Pines to locals, this unique area of Bastrop County is marked by dense pine trees throughout the area. Finding your way around Tahitian Village without a map is useless. However, maps are available at the Water District office. This office is located at 106 Conference Drive, approximately ¼ mile from Highway 71 and Tahitian Drive.

You will find the ladies working the front desk to be very friendly, helpful and informative. Tahitian Village has approximately 7,000 lots that currently house approximately 2,000 homes. Lots are generally large, quarter acre or larger. The terrain is a combination of steep hillsides and deep valleys that limit building opportunities on a large percentage of the lots. These factors, combined with the dense, mature pine trees, create a very special opportunity for privacy and a feeling of spaciousness. Tahitian home construction began in the early 1970s, and new construction is very common today. Oversized lots and adherence to building restrictions allow for a unique mix of homes of all ages and styles to aesthetically “fit together.”

There are five sections of Tahitian Village. Section 5, which contains few pine trees, is located on the west end of the development behind the high school baseball fields. The most popular entrance to Section 5 is from Lovers Lane, which is the first exit east of the Colorado River. Sections 5 and 3 require septic, while Sections 1, 2 and 4 have sewer available at this time. Created by Billy Martindale and Don January, the 18-hole, par-72 Tahitian’s Pine Forest Golf Course was completed in 1979. Five holes border the Colorado River and the remaining 13 interplay with steep canyons and rolling hills.

The challenging course offers many beautiful views. Facilities also include an oversized 3,000-square-foot putting green, a driving range, and sand bunkers for practice with chipping greens. The fully equipped Pine Forest Golf Club is complemented by a large covered patio, snack/beverage bar and banquet facilities. Lakeside Hospital opened in 2006 and is located on Highway 71 approximately one mile from Tahitian Drive. Adjacent to the hospital is a new 35,000-square-foot professional office building comprised primarily of physician and medical-related businesses.
