Bathrooms should be much more than necessary bedrooms

Your life is full of work, activities, family and shopping. When you have time for yourself, the bathroom should be the only place in your house that invites you to stay, because you have dedicated it to total relaxation. Transforming your cozy (or generous) bathroom will mean a change in your life that perhaps you had not imagined. When it’s luxurious and comfortable, it becomes a sanctuary, a place where you’ll want to spend time to yourself or with your favorite person. Give yourself a time out

Start thinking of the space as a “bathroom” (instead of a bathroom)

It will change your whole perspective. Now instead of a room, think of a space or setting. What place have you seen, dreamed or read about that made you feel completely comfortable, as if belonged there?

Where was it? Was she in a garden, forest, beach, cabin, countryside, city, spa, mountains, camp, palace or ranch?

Think about these three things and as you make a list, begin to envision the bathroom that would reflect your preferences and feelings. If you don’t know the color wheel, look it up online. Find a site online that shows what colors are warm or cool, if you’re not sure.

To create a sense of space, open up an exterior wall with glass blocks or a picture window… floor to ceiling would be perfect. Instead, a floor-to-ceiling piece of bubbled glass on a pale aqua wall would give a similar feeling of openness. A glass counter and sink, a white toilet, a silver tub, and a glass shower will do. The walls have the most subtle shade of aquamarine. Tiles on the floors and shower will be canvas beige, with the smallest specks a darker color. If you can find large seashells, have an electrician turn them into lights above the mirror; no need to mix or match small shell candle holders above the counter. With sheer sheets on the windows and white towels, you’re almost done. Think of a canvas cabana over the bathtub, supported by slender natural wood columns, and you’ve got your beach getaway every time you open the door.
