Relive history through the sights of Prague

It is not easy to see all the sights of Prague in just one vacation in this capital of the Czech Republic. Perhaps that is why so many people have returned to the Golden City over and over again.

Prague offers a wide variety of attractions, from picturesque parks to crowded market squares and bustling entertainment districts. Its museums are top-notch and its theater scene is legendary.

But the sights of Prague that everyone remembers are the magnificent historical buildings that lie around every corner of this capital with a long and proud history. From ancient chapels to castles towering to the sky, Prague is a history book come true.

Best of all, most of these historic attractions are easily accessible on foot. And those that can’t are pretty easy to find by taking Prague’s public transport system. No need to drive while in Prague, even if you want to visit as many historical places as possible.

One of the main tourist sites in Prague in the aptly named Prague Castle. This catsle, dating back over a thousand years, still serves as the administrative center of the Czech Republic.

But it is also a place to see amazing architecture from various periods. There are Gothic spiers and towers. There are buildings that look like palaces. And there are even hints of Baroque and Neo-Renaissance architecture here.

A highlight of Prague Castle is the changing of the guard, which takes place every hour in a green courtyard under the watchful eye of statues of Titan in battle. This changing of the guard may not be as famous as the one that takes place regularly at Buckingham Palace in London, but it is just as dramatic.

The Charles Bridge is another one of the many tourist sites in Prague not to be missed. Designed by Petr Parler in 1357, the bridge connects the Old Town area of ​​Prague with its Lesser Quarter section. Today, it is home to several buskers, known as buskers, who perform for tourists and natives alike.

In 1657, a bronze crucifix was placed on one of the parapets of the bridge. That started a trend. Today, more than 30 different sculptures adorn this magnificent bridge. One of the most impressive is the haloed statue of Saint John of Nepomuk. Legend has it that Saint John was thrown into the river from the bridge in 1393 because he sided with the archbishop instead of the king during a dispute.

Visitors to this historic city will find many additional Prague tourist sites while staying in this beloved metropolis. There is the Church of San Nicolás, the Cathedral of San Vito, the sanctuary of Loreta and much more.

Tourists may find it impossible to visit all the major tourist sites in Prague during their visits. Although that’s fine. It just gives you one more reason to return to this Golden City.
