Lovebirds are beautiful creatures and amazing pets. They add beauty and charm to your home. Just the sight of these beautiful birds is a refreshing experience. If you tame a Lovebird, the joy they bring into your life has a doubling effect. Lovebirds of any age can be tamed and trained. However, if you have hand-reared lovebirds, they are much easier to tame than adults.

Decide how many Lovebirds you want to tame and start with just one bird at a time. Taming a lovebird requires your full attention. A pair of Lovebirds will socialize with each other and the process will become more difficult for you. A single bird will consider a human as its partner and will learn the process much faster and easier and training becomes a fun experience for your bird.

Taming a lovebird requires a lot of patience, time, and practice for your bird. It is worth the time you spend taming a domesticated lovebird. The best time to start training is as soon as possible. Training should be divided into three to five sessions of no more than ten to fifteen minutes each. Training sessions should be carried out almost daily.

Take your Lovebird to a separate room where there are minimal distractions from outside sources. Close all open windows and doors so your bird doesn’t fly away. Now take the Lovebird out of its cage and speak to it in a low voice. Words like “good parrot”, etc., etc. It has a calming effect on your bird and helps calm him down and prepare him for training. Don’t yell or yell at him.

Establish a trusting relationship with your bird. Fearful birds are hard to tame. Once your bird is comfortable in your presence, place your hand inside its cage with a food item in hand. Do not make sudden movements that can scare your bird. Do this several times until your Lovebird becomes familiar with your hand and starts eating food from your hand.

The next step is to teach him to climb on your finger. To do this, bring your finger close to the Lovebird and gently touch it on her chest. The bird will lose its balance and to balance it will climb up and sit on your finger. Now take him out of his cage and say a few words of encouragement and offer him a treat for complying with the required behavior. Repeat the process several times.

When your Lovebird has learned to sit on your finger, take him back to his cage and teach him to come down on his perch. With repeat, your bird will easily go up and down as many times as you like. Patience is required to teach these steps. Some birds learn very quickly while others learn a bit later depending on the age of your bird. Practice this over and over again until it becomes second nature.

Now teach your hand to fly from a distance. Take the food in your hand and pronounce the familiar word or whistle. When your lovebird flies into your hand, give it the treat and say the words of encouragement. Practice this step so many times until your bird fully learns this step and flies to your hand instantly. With practice and patience you will finally have a beautiful hand tame Lovebird.
