It has been a really turbulent time not only for Kerala but for the entire nation as we struggle to recover. The floods really left Kerala in a terrible condition. Nature’s wrath can be truly uncontrollable. But so can the ever-changing trends of the competitive marketplace.

Many brands, in the wake of natural calamities, come up with innovative campaigns. While many consider them simply public relations stunts, they definitely also have a number of beneficial effects on society.

They raise awareness and also inspire people to rekindle their social responsibility.

Here is a list of the top 5 campaigns that were a response to an ongoing natural calamity:

1. Dell, Microsoft and HP:

Dell, in association with Hewlett Packard and Microsoft, led a relief campaign for victims of the earthquake and tsunami in Japan. 250 laptops and free mobile connection from Microsoft were distributed. They also helped ensure a stable internet connection in Japan.

Apart from this, they also urged their employees to contribute by helping affected Japanese people by cleaning up their streets and sewers.

Dell also sent bags of supplies and books to the affected children.

2.Budweiser:

Budweiser’s campaign is not talking about a particular natural calamity but about water scarcity, which is a more chronic problem. They launched a campaign in January 2018 called Super Bowl Spot.

To do its bit to address the growing problem of water scarcity, Budweiser donated millions of jugs of water to the people of California, Puerto Rico, Texas and Florida.

The campaign featured the song Stand By Me by Skylar Gray and every time people download the song, a portion of the proceeds will be donated to the American Red Cross Society.

3. AirBnB

AirBnB launched a Temporary Housing Program (Accommodation, a service they are known for) for the homeless in Haiti.

To compliment this, the company made use of its registered contacts and welcomed the needy and the poor.

Later it was also seen how those affected were provided with a home environment and not just a place to stay.
