Get hired as a waiter

there is a lot of competition

If you’re looking for a job in the restaurant industry, there’s good news and bad news. The good news is that there is probably a restaurant you are hiring within a short drive from your home. The bad news is that your neighbors are applying for that very job.

You have to stand out to get noticed. However, no problem. I have three rules that if you follow, you will only do that.

Rule one: know who you are talking to.

I can’t tell you how many people I’ve seen walking down the block from a busy, city-wide restaurant armed with a folder full of generic resumes. These people stop at every restaurant they’ve never been to and do two stupid things:

1. They ask: “Do you know if you are hiring?”
2. They deliver their resume to the host.

If you are going to submit a resume, first know who is making the hiring decision. before you submit your resume. It doesn’t necessarily matter if they’re hiring or not, what’s important is getting the hiring managers’ attention. The best way to achieve this is by directing your resume to that person, by their name.

Make calls to the restaurants you want to work at and ask for the name of the front of house hiring manager. Is Juan? Kate? Joseph? Be sure to direct your resume to them. That will make your resume stand out.

Rule Two: Hand in your resume at the right time.

Anyone with any experience or common sense knows that restaurants are busy during certain hours. Those busy times are not the times to turn in your resume.

The best time to submit a resume is within the hour the restaurant opens for lunch, or in the interval between lunch and dinner, between 3 and 4:30 is usually perfect. That’s when the hiring manager will most likely be available to take your resume, shake your hand, and look you in the eye. And that’s all part of getting the job: being in front of the manager!

Rule three: Be prepared!

There is nothing worse than a job applicant who is not prepared. Lack of preparation manifests itself in various ways. It could be not knowing anything about the restaurant you are applying to, not knowing anything about restaurants absolutelyor even worse, No look like you’re going on a date with someone you want to impress (you should always show up with your resume looking amazing!)

When you walk into that restaurant where you want to work to hand in your resume, you should look and feel confident about yourself and who you are there to meet.

If you follow these three basic rules you are way above your competition.
