Xbox 360 Troubleshooting Red Light Errors – Keep Your Xbox 360 From Overheating!

Fixing Xbox 360 red light errors can be quite frustrating if you don’t have the proper knowledge. In fact, even the seasoned professional can start pulling their hair out! However, once you have the solution to a certain problem, it is worth all the effort and stress! When it comes to fixing Xbox 360 red light errors, there are some practical steps you can take.

The first thing I should mention is that the main problem with the Xbox 360 is that it overheats, and when this happens it can cause the red lights better known as the red ring of death to appear. Knowing that overheating is a problem, it’s important to take steps to cool down your Xbox 360 as much as possible.

Here are some things you can do to prevent your Xbox 360 from overheating.

  • Play games for no more than 2 hours at a time with 2 hour breaks in between. This can be hard to do if you’re used to gaming for 10 hours straight, but it will go a long way in preventing your Xbox 360 from overheating!
  • Don’t leave the console on if you’re not using it! I know plenty of Xbox 360 gamers who will take a couple hour break or even run an errand and leave the console running. If you’re going to be away from your Xbox 360 for an extended period of time, turn it off!
  • Keep your console out of direct sunlight or any heating devices such as radiators, and do not store it on a narrow shelf or in a cramped compartment as this will make it difficult for it to ‘breathe’.
  • Never place your Xbox 360 on a rug or sofa, as this will definitely cause it to overheat! Instead, place it on a hard, cool surface and make sure it has plenty of space around it. Also, do not cover the console with any material that restricts airflow.
  • Keep your console free of dust as much as possible. Regularly cleaning the dust from the vents with a small vacuum cleaner will prevent it from accumulating, as the dust can act as a heating blanket.

Following these steps should help prevent your Xbox 360 from overheating and get you back to playing your games. However, if you still see the red lights, then it might be time to get your console serviced. Many Xbox 360 players have decided not to send their console to Microsoft due to the long waiting period which can be as long as 6 weeks!

Instead they bought an auto repair guide online for around $30 and fixed the problem themselves. These guides are so easy to follow due to the excellent quality of the demo videos that it would be a real shame not to get one!
