Trim and skim the fat

Recently, after extensive dental work, my dentist suggested that I go on a liquid diet. Being a southern girl, I refused to drink only broth and water. Reluctantly, I went to the grocery store and bought the best soup on the shelves. I got home, opened the can and added my freshly ground pepper. Between the Novocain slime and Motrin, I thought the soup was pretty good. After 2 days of soup, the soup started to taste bland. On the third day, I added cayenne for flavor. However, all I could taste was the cayenne in the mushy soup. My little mom decided to make me some of her homemade chicken soup. In all my years, I could never remember my mother making homemade chicken soup. I guess it’s been a while since she was home and had a chance to experience my mom’s home cooking.

He started with organic chicken, added spices and boiled the chicken. She let the broth from the boiled chicken cool overnight and trimmed the fat from the broth the next morning. She then added fresh corn that he cut off the cob and chopped carrots, onions, green onions, potatoes and diced chicken pieces to perfection. It sounds slow, but hmm, if you could just taste it. After trying my mother’s homemade soup, I could no longer tolerate canned soup. The difference between canned soup and homemade soup is inexplicable. For the next 3 days, my mom made fresh homemade soup. Did she take her longer to get ready? She yes she did it. It was worth the wait? I can give a resounding and unequivocal YES.

Often our approach to physical activity and any major life change is a lot like soup on the shelf. It is convenient to obtain it and therefore it becomes our source of comfort.

To reach a new destination or goals, it’s worth the extra preparation and time to TRIM and DUMP the fat.

Trimming and skimming the fat requires:
1. Faith: Faith is a belief that is not based on logical proof or material evidence. You must have faith that you can and will achieve any goal you set for yourself. See yourself as a happy, successful and healthy individual. Poor diet and nutrition is often a reflection of an area of our lives that is suffering from neglect. Carelessness begins to manifest in overeating, overdrinking, oversleeping, and habits that are not conducive to a better, healthier life.

2. Acceptance: means that you are valuable just the way you are. Have you ever thought about the stages of growth and development of a newborn baby? From conception, each element was predetermined before birth. The color and shape of your eyes to the shape and angle of your toenails were predetermined to make YOU. Examine yourself and design a change plan to create the happiness you deserve.

3. Patience: The definition of patience is being constant or the ability to endure delay without getting upset or angry – remain calm in the face of adversity – Being constant in the midst of a storm. In a fast-paced environment where things can be had without work, we often get tired of achieving our goals and ambitions.

4. Skill: Skill is the ability to perform or do something successfully to a high degree of skill or general proficiency. If you are breathing and healthy, your abilities are endless. The only disabilities that exist are the ones we put on ourselves.

5. Preparation: Procrastination is murder to your final destination. Procrastination can be our worst enemy. It can stifle our progress and limit our possibilities. Start by planning every hour of every day to get things done.

6. Attitude: Your attitude can be a general opinion/feeling. Attitude is a choice. Every morning when you wake up you have a choice. You can choose to be happy or miserable. Being miserable and negative is useless. Negativity depresses those around you and wastes energy. Channel negative energy into things that can turn situations into a positive outcome.

7. Habit: Research shows that if you do something consistently for 21 days in a row, it will become a habit. Today, start by evaluating your good and bad habits. Assess positive and negative self-talk. Make a list of good and bad clothes.

8. Healing: Let go of the past and press into the future. To heal physically and emotionally, you must first admit that there is a problem. Once you are ready to deal with the symptoms,
the healing process can begin.

To make positive changes in your life, start with an assessment of your daily life and your goals. Cut out and remove negative energy and people from your daily life. Know that each day will be different. And every new day you have the opportunity to do better. Be your best…every day.
