The best comedies to put on your iPod
The technology of a video Ipod speaks to the television lover in all of us: since its invention, it is quite easy to never miss the antics of your favorite fictional characters. While we enjoy a world without commercials, and in which we can easily rewind to see if the characters in South Park We really said what we thought they said, it becomes quite common to know that I scream, you scream, we all scream for the Ipod.
However, not all programs are, as Elaine Benes would say, “iPod-worthy.” Some shows are not very good, some may have already been watched and some are on TV a million times a day (ahem, Law and order). This makes it easy to sort out those that should be included on your Ipod and those that shouldn’t even have VHSed. The following is our list of the best comedies to put on your Ipod, the ones that, if you don’t see them, you will get lost in more ways than one.
Scrubs, NBC: This program makes people really want to go to the hospital. Scrubs, created by Bill Lawrence, is like Grey’s Anatomy Satisfies Ally mcbeal he comes across a bottle of Prozac. As you follow the life of JD Dorian in his quest to excel in medicine and gain his mentor’s approval, hilarious situations abound. It’s by far one of the most original shows on television, and one that you don’t have to rely on shocking humor or bathroom humor to get a laugh. It’s funny, sincere, and doesn’t look like anything else in circulation.
Desperate Housewives, ABC: Ok, Desperate housewives – or DH as he is known in the inner circle – may not be your typical run-of-the-mill comedy: no laugh tracks and few dream sequences. Still, DH is made up of a myriad of characters working together to create comic harmony. From Susan’s clumsiness to Bree’s penchant for throwing a party during a hostage situation, from outrageous plots to clever writing, DH is one of the funniest dramas or the most dramatic comedies.
The office, NBC: If you’re looking for a show full of scenes that Steve Carell won’t steal, don’t watch The office. A show about a group of workers in, well, an office, this series is definitely hilarious. Steve Carell plays a boss whose oblivion escapes through the pores: he thinks he’s great, but no one else except his faithful partner Dwight agrees. The office is one of the only television shows that contains three unique abilities: it will make you laugh out loud, it will make you feel embarrassed by the character of Steve Carrol and it will remind you of all the people you have worked with.
My name is Earl, NBC: Made up of the craziest people around My name is earl tells the story of Earl Hickey, a man who has been making fun of society until he wins the lottery, is hit by a car and loses his winning ticket. When this happens, Earl decides to put Karma on his side by making a list of all his wrongdoings and setting out to correct them. A show with a great cast and great chemistry, My name is earl makes white trash very adorable.
The New Adventures of Old Christine, CBS: Julia Louis-Dreyfus returns to her best comedy form in The New Adventures of Old Christine. Louis-Dreyfus plays Christine, a single mother raising her son in Los Angeles. Surrounded by a host of characters, including her ex-husband and his girlfriend (the “new” Christine), the old Christine tries to make her life work. Although we will always miss Elaine Benes, with a special desire for her incredible dance moves, The New Adventures of Old Christine helps take away some of the pain.
