Campers, Trailers, and RVs – Know the Difference Before You Visit RV Dealers

Have you recently made the decision to buy a mobile home? These are a great way to add another layer of mobility to your life. But, before visiting RV dealerships, you should know more about the types of mobile homes available today. The most popular options are the RV, pop-up, trailer, and camper. All of these options have their strengths. Find out which one is best for you.

The recreational vehicle

Recreational vehicles, also known as motor homes, are often the largest of the options available at RV dealerships and feature the most amenities. Depending on the make and model you choose, RVs can be as short as a truck or as long as 45 feet. This means that they are also difficult to handle; some states require special licenses to operate mobile homes. Unlike the other options on this list, they are completely self-contained.

When it comes to add-ons, RVs have the most versatility. Most motorhomes come with a bed, a bathroom, a cooking area, and a small living room. Larger upgraded models may also come with additional beds or bedrooms, a full kitchen, a living room with a sofa and armchairs, and bathrooms with tubs and showers. Features like extended cabinets, flat-screen TVs, kitchen islands, and hot tubs can also be added.

If you are looking for all the comforts of home while traveling, the recreational motorhome may be the best option for you.

The pop-up camper

A pop-up window is a specialized mobile home that can be folded into a small space and unfolded when parked as part of the pop-up setup. It is much smaller and more maneuverable than a motorhome without sacrificing a lot of space or comforts. Modern pop-up windows consist of a frame, box, hard top, removable bunks, and soft walls, which are made of vinyl or canvas.

Although the displayed pop-ups share the size of motorhomes, they do not have some of the same amenities. The new high-wall models come with space for cabinets and beds, but there are very few models that come with showers. Special accessories can be purchased to provide baths. However, what it lacks in amenities it makes up for in maneuverability and price. Pop-ups are much less expensive than their larger counterparts and can be towed behind a truck or SUV.

The travel trailer

A travel trailer, also called a caravan or teardrop, is a small, sturdy living space that can be attached to a vehicle. Like motorhomes and RVs, travel trailers can have many of the comforts of home: a bed, a kitchen, a living room, and a bathroom. Travel trailers tend to be smaller, much smaller than motorhomes. They are typically less than 18 feet long and can weigh less than 700 pounds. Smaller teardrop or ultralight models can even be carried behind cars or motorcycles.

The Camper Camper

The Truck Trailer is the smallest mobile home you’ll find on the RV dealer lot. They are made to fit in a truck bed. Ultra-small and ultra-light, they are built to meet the needs: sleeping space, stove or hot plate, sink and sometimes a bathroom, they are stacked on top of each other to fit the maximum in the space. Truck campers allow their inhabitants to go anywhere a normal car could go. They are popular with people on long-term job sites.

When you visit a RV dealership, your sales associate can help you determine which of these mobile homes best suits your needs, style, and budget.
